“Go Slow Whoa” Wellness Award

The Side Creek Cafeteria was awarded the Healthier U.S.School Challenge- Bronze Level ranking for improving nutrician education with "the Go, Slow and Whoa" program. The Go Slow and Whoa encourages students to eat more fruits and vegetables rather than the fattier foods. The program has been in effect in APS schools for two years.
The Side Creek cafeteria will receive a special plaque , a $500 reward and a banner outside the school announcing the award. Mrs Bertha Castle, cafeteria manager and her staff are to be commended for their fine efforts in the nutrician of Side Creek students.
There will be a special presentation to Bertrha and her staff at the district "Wellness Celebration" on Monday, January 23rd at the Professional Learning Center, 15771 East 1st Avenue from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Light Snacks will be provided.

Dear Side Creek Parents/Guardians,
It is that time of the year when we start to think about which students would benefit from the 23 additional days of instruction in Fifth Block.
I have provided the general information for you to read. Teachers will be making their recommendations to me in January, and students will be invited in February. Some additional areas that are of high consideration in selecting students for this opportunity are the following: no discipline issues and students with good attendance records. If you have questions about Fifth Block, please feel free to contact me so that I can answer your questions. More information about the Fifth Block is contained in the document link below.

Aquatics for 2012!
Aurora Public Schools Aquatics Program
Join the water experience! Aurora Public Schools offers a swim program for kids and adults of all ages and abilities. The “APS Learn to Swim” program is year round and offers lessons for beginner to advanced swimmers and divers. The program offers anopportunity to enhance your skills and increase your confidence For the more competitive swimmer, we also offer a year round swim team, called the Aurora Tsunami, for ages 7-18.
The team is also part of United States Swimming (USS).

Fall Choir Concert “The Stonecutter”
The 3rd, 4th and 5th grade fall choir program was a huge success! The Program was heard on November 28, 2011. the choir told a Japanese fable, The Stonecutter, through music, drama, and dance. The choir sang many songs in Japanese. The 5th graders performed two traditional Taiko drum pieces. The choir was accompanied by the 4th and 5th graders in xylophone club. The performance was under the direction of Mrs. Karen Burton, music teacher.
