Principal’s Message

Principal's Message
April - 2015

 Hello Families,

It is hard to believe that we have already begun the final quarter of the school year. Students continue to work hard daily in their progress towards mastery of grade level expectations as defined in the Colorado Academic Standards. If after receiving the third quarter report card, you have any questions/concerns about your child’s progress or how you can support at home, please contact his/her teacher.

A reminder that April 6th is READ Act Day and there is no school for students. Our teachers will spend the day conferencing with the families of students who are below grade level proficiency in reading. The Colorado READ Act is legislation designed to support struggling readers in grades K-3 by ensuring that an intervention plan (READ plan) is in place to catch these students up with their peers. Because at Side Creek we understand how vital reading is to overall academic success, we are extending these conferences to include every student (grades K-5) who is behind in reading whether on a READ plan or not. We want to ensure that families know specifically what we are doing to support their children. Read the rest of this entry »

“Best Day of the Year”

Side Creek's field day was held on Friday, September 19th.  The field day was planned for September 12th, but the weather was poor that day.  Side Creek's field day was moved from the spring to the fall because of the early dismissal of school in May.

Thanks to Mrs. Zimmerman for preparing and hostessing Field Day on Friday September 19th!  Many students were quoted as saying "IT IS THE BEST DAY OF THE YEAR!" We would also like to thank the MANY volunteers who made Field Day so wonderful!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Kindergarten’s First Day!

Kindergarten officially began on August 12th at Side Creek.  In order to introduce the students to the staff members and their rooms, the kinder teachers took the students on a quest to find the "Queen of the School" - the principal!  Students were guided around the building to meet and watch as staff tried on the glitter slipper to find it's owner.  Finally, after searching - the kindergarteners finally found Ms. Gariepy!  (Students won't soon forget the staff members after seeing them all try to fit into the glittering slipper!)

This activity introduces the new students to important people around the building and makes a great beginning activity for the students.  There are nearly seventy kindergarten students coming to Side Creek this year.
