Principal’s Message

Principal's Message
Spring - 2014

 Dear Side Creek Community,

As the year comes to a rapid close, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for supporting our students and school. We need the collaboration of our community to ensure the success of all of our students. In thinking about next year, we encourage the involvement of our families and community members. If you are interested in investing your energies into the school, we could use your talent and expertise. We will be offering more opportunities for you to get involved and ask you to please find one that works for you!

As the new administrative team, we have enjoyed getting to know your children this year! We also have had the opportunity to work closely with some of  you which has directly benefited your student(s). I would like to stress that my door is  always open and I personally invite you to meet me or contact me directly if  there is a way I can improve your child’s experience at Side Creek.

We would also like  to acknowledge and thank our talented teaching staff. They keep the expectations high for themselves and our students, pushing them on a daily basis to meet goals and be successful. Our teachers never look for praise, but their efforts certainly warrant recognition. I just want to express my  gratitude for their contribution every single day to our kids successes. My belief is that our  role at side creek is to ‘be the bridge’ that carries each child into a bright future of endless possibility. I look forward  to another year of this journey!

Sincerely,
Susan Gariepy
Principal, Side Creek Elementary

Summer Kindergarten Registration

Summer Kindergarten Registration at Side Creek Elementary will end on Friday, June 6th. Registration for Kindergarten will commence again on Tuesday,  July 22nd. Enjoy the summer recess!

Environmental Club Earns $1000

The Side Creek Environmental Club ends the year with $1000 in the club treasury.  Because of the club's efforts this year, Side Creek finished in second place in the Aurora School district's energy saving contest.

Energy1

Club members checked school rooms for energy waste throughout the school year and created posters encouraging Side Creek students and staff to save energy.   Teachers were sent "tips" on how to save energy in daily e-mails. The money won this year will go to promoting energy conservation projects next year. The side creek environmental club is sponsored by Mrs. Whitney Allen and Mrs. Paige Palmer, both 5th grade teachers.

Skate City Night

Tuesday, May 13th, from 6 to 8 pm is the final Skate City Night for Side Creek Students. It is also Pizza Night at Skate City. All Side Creek students will receive a free slice of pizza for attending.  Skate City Nights is one of the PTO's successful fundraisers throughout the year.  Hope to see you there!

Breakfast in the Classroom

BREAKFAST IN THE CLASSROOM

The first step of ensuring that all students are ready to learn is to make sure that they start the day with a nutritious breakfast. Research shows that children who eat breakfast perform better in school and have fewer behavior problems than those who do not.

We are pleased to announce that we will begin serving free breakfast in the classroom to all students starting with the 2014-15 school year. Regardless of whether or not your child qualifies for free or reduced price meals, he or she can receive a nutritious meal in the morning free of charge. No advanced registration is needed.

The Breakfast in the Classroom program is available to all students every weekday morning. School breakfast is tasty and nutritious and provides children with important vitamins and nutrients they need.
